What does it take to join the Texas Pool Lifeguard Team? Positive attitude, a willingness to learn and to teach others, strong decision making skills and an interest in serving the public at a historic landmark pool. Texas Pool Lifeguards are ambassadors for the pool itself, interacting with the public and saving lives when necessary. All Texas Pool Lifeguards must be certified by the American Red Cross. The Texas Pool requires American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and hires at age 15 and up. The City of Plano Parks and Recreation offers Lifeguard, Jr. Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor and Learn to Swim Assistant classes throughout the year and seasonally. The American Red Cross provides information on training, locations and Lifeguard certification/re-certification.
