The Texas Pool needs a volunteer Historian

The Texas Pool is looking for a dedicated and motivated volunteer to fill our year-round Historian position! The Texas Pool Historian is focused on researching oral histories of members and volunteers throughout the lifetime of the pool, with securing artifacts and archives, and representing the Texas Pool Foundation at official community functions, City of Plano Heritage meetings, other professional meetings workshops, conferences and events.

The estimated hourly commitment is about 5 hours a month. The Historian is expected to attend monthly board meetings (usually Saturday mornings). With their service, the Historian receives one complimentary family membership to the pool and one free party for up to 100 people. 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Follow up on all inquiries made regarding Texas Pool history
  • Represent the preservation perspective in renovation/repair issues
  • Advocate for and pursue historical designation at local, state and national level
  • Document (photographs) renovations that could impact current or future designations and maintain on shared drive
  • Research Texas Pool history and conduct interviews
  • Maintain archive of historical records on shared drive
  • Serve on committee for Annual Reunion Party
  • Research Historical grants
  • Respond to all communications promptly (email, Facebook, calls, texts)
  • Encourage volunteerism and mentor new recruits
  • Volunteer at Texas Pool events consistently
  • Represent Texas Pool at City of Plano Heritage Commission meetings (monthly)

Qualifications Preferred:

  • Organization and planning skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers 
  • Outgoing, positive attitude 
  • Previous work experience in historical preservation, museum or non-profit strongly desired
