Roberto Clemente Pittsburgh Pirates throwback jersey signed and inscribed by Roberto Clemente Jr.
This jersey was signed in gold pen and inscribed with “9/30/72”. This marked the date that Clemente had his 3,000th hit on the last day of the 1972 season which ironically was his final career hit as he was tragically killed in a plane crash just 3 months later. All numbers and letters are sewn on this size 48 jersey. This also comes with a unique serial numbered tamper-proof hologram noting that this was signed in the presence of a PSA/DNA representative.
On New Year's Eve, December 31st, 1972, Roberto Clemente chartered a plane for a humanitarian mission to earthquake-striken Nicaragua. Even though Clemente had some concerns about the plane's safety, he flew. Clemente's flight crashed into the ocean shortly after takeoff, killing him and all four crew members. Today, Clemente is recognized as one of the few baseball immortals to ever live.
